Fun fact: Megan and Dan won a free engagement session after I met them at a bridal show at Cross Keys Vineyard. They decided they wanted a fall engagement session complete with Virginia mountain views – and boy did those locations deliver! We started off at Gaie Lea, an intimate wedding venue in Staunton, VA. We absolutely love Gaie Lea, by the way. There are so many photogenic spots and you can have your cocktail hour poolside – how can you beat that?? But, I am getting off track. Megan, Dan, Anthony and myself met up and traipsed all around the property. We started in front of the gorgeous tudor-style house, then headed down to the pond for some water-side photos. WE love the little jetty that helps us get great photos over the water! Then, we came back up and explored the poolside gazebo and fun walking path. We ended the first part of the session with some new friends in the background – cows! We love farm engagement sessions.
The second part of the session took us out on the Blue Ridge Parkway. One of the most popular spots on the Parkway is Ravens Roost – and for good reason. On any given evening, you will find dozens of photographers and their clients all over the rocky landscape. When it gets close to sunset, we all take turns getting the perfect shot of our couples and other clients right on the mountain’s edge. Boy, it is breathtaking! After a quick outfit change, we walked around to find some great spots while we waited for the sun to set a bit more. There are some great spots with greenery and then there are some great open-air spots. We ended the session as we always do, getting those last-minute glowy sunset portraits over the mountain. While Megan and Dan were forced to postpone their wedding until 2021 due to Covid, we photographed their intimate elopement in April. Blog post coming soon!
